If you’re like me, most nights when you are ready to close your eyes and go to sleep, your mind starts racing. Maybe you have multiple to-do lists that are running through your head, or you’re replaying this day’s event or even planning for the next day.

I’ve found that I am able to get to sleep quicker when I take control of my mind and thoughts as my head is resting on the pillow.

So here are 12 bedtime affirmations that should be a part of your self care routine. Repeat these to calm your body and quiet your mind when it’s time to go to sleep.

1. "I’ve done my best today."

None of us are perfect. But what matters is that we do the best we can in each situation. So, let your mind rest in the fact that you gave your best today.

2. "I’m grateful for everything today has brought me."

Even if the whole day wasn't a good day, we should be thankful for everything that has happened today. If you think about it, you still have most than many, and if you live with a grateful heart then you'll feel a peace that surpasses all understanding.

3. "My mind is restful."

Even if your mind is running 100 miles per hour, proclaim that your mind is restful, and it will start to be so.

4. "I am safe."

Many of us take our safety for granted. Having a roof over our heads and feeling secure in our environment is a blessing!

5. "My body is relaxed."

This is another one that you'll need to proclaim if your body is not relaxed at the time you're going to sleep. By saying so, you start to move your energy in that direction. You can simply take a few deep breaths while repeating to yourself, "My body is relaxed."

6. "My heart is pure."

Sometimes when we're falling asleep, we replay several events that happened throughout the day. And maybe we didn't like the outcome of an interaction or life scenario. But if you know that your heart and your intentions have pure motivations, then at the end of the day, you can affirm that your heart is pure and rest easy.

7. "I am happy with the things I accomplished today."

We shouldn't strive for perfection, we should strive for progress. At the end of the day, be happy with the things that you accomplished, no matter how little or how big.

8. "I’m proud of my efforts."

This piggy backs off the previous affirmation because even if you wish you had done more, at least you can be proud of your progress. Be careful to not set unrealistic expectations of yourself, because at the end of the day, you'll always be disappointed. And give yourself grace for the things that can get done later.

9. "I appreciate everything I have."

Appreciate all of the little things that happened throughout the day. Appreciate clean water, your car, friends and family, your job which provides the means for you to live and even your physical abilities. If you take time to express gratitude for everything you have, then your mind will start to quiet down.

10. "I choose peace and calm."

Choosing peace and calm is important at the end of the day, so that you can feel restful as you're falling asleep. Proclaim these even if you don't feel them in the moment.

11. "I am grateful for this pillow & place to sleep."

Again it's so important to be grateful for every little thing that you have, including the pillow that you are able to lay your head on at the end of the long, tiresome day.

12. "Tomorrow is a new day and a fresh start."

Last, but not least, remember that tomorrow is a new day and a fresh start. If there's anything that you were not able to accomplish today, then look at tomorrow as a new opportunity to do so.
